The trailer of Daddy, a film based on the life of famous Mumbai mobster Arun Gawli, is out. And it looks like it’s going to be one of the best gangster movies to come out of Bollywood. The film stars Arjun Rampal in the titular role and he looks convincing, first as a criminal and then as a politician.
Daddy is set in the 70’s and captures the journey of Arun Gulab Gawli, who with two other men, formed the highly feared B.R.A. gang in Mumbai. The trio were forced to take the path of crime after the Mumbai textile mill was shut down and several families lost jobs. Because of their financial obligations, many workers turned to crime to earn their livelihood.
From the looks of the trailer, it seems like Arun Gawli, albeit a criminal, will be portrayed as a messiah for the ex-textile mill workers and their families. He’s like their Robin Hood who steals from the corrupt and gives to the poor, thus becoming their “Daddy”. The trailer seems to imply that this popularity is probably what helped him stand for elections even though he had a long history of crime behind him.
